Thanks to all the volunteers, teachers and board members that made our annual Mochitsuki a huge success. Mochitsuki celebrates a traditional New Year's Japanese culinary food - mochi rice cakes. We demonstrate how mochi was made centuries ago using wooden mallets and an usu. Students can even jump in and try out it our themselves. And of course, student, parents and volunteers were able to taste the fabulous omchi made (four different styles - red beans, kinako, daikon, sweet soy) and served by our dedicated parent volunteers.
The students also practiced their Japanese calligraphy skills and played some traditional Japanese kids' games (not including Nintendo nor PS4).
Lastly, the highlight of our event was the taiko drum demonstration! A special thank you to the Taiko Drummers for gracing our event and supporting our students.
