The Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church (SACBC) Japanese Language School (JLS) is a non-denominational, not-for-profit Japanese language school for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Formed in 1964, the school is one of the oldest Japanese language schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
SACBC JLS offers high school foreign language credit for FUSD students only.
SACBC日本語学園は、幼稚園生から高校生までを対象とする、無宗
教系・非営利運営の日本語学校です。1964年に設立された当学園は、
サンフランシスコ・ベイエリアで最も古い日本語学校の一つです。ま
た、高校の語学単位取得が認定された数少ない日本語学校の一つです
（フリーモント学区の生徒に限ります）。
SACBC JLS operates as a co-operative or co-op, meaning that we rely on our families to run the school. This helps to ensure that the school can offer a high quality education and keep tuitions affordable. What it also means is that you have a say in how the school operates through participation as an officer on the school's Board of Directors and in your student's education by helping with the school's various events. It’s a great way to meet other parents and to get involved in your student’s education.
SACBC日本語学園は、協同組合運営（co-op）により成り立っていま
す。保護者の皆様のご協力によって、当学園の質の高い教育と良心的
な学費のご提供が可能となっています。また、協同組合運営では、役
員会への参加を通して保護者が学園の運営に発言権を持ち、様々な行
事への参加によって他の保護者の皆様と交流を深めたり、お子様の教
育に携わる素晴らしい機会となることでしょう。
Courses and Classes
For Students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade. At this time, SACBC JLS does not offer Japanese language courses for adults.
JLS offers two Japanese language course tracks: Bilingual and Japanese. Both are taught in traditional in-the-class room settings.
Bilingual courses, also known as our "B" courses, for students who do speak Japanese at home.
Japanese courses, also known as our "J" courses, for students who do not speak Japanese at home.
In addition to Japanese language courses, the school offers a range of cultural experiences as well, including our annual Undokai (children's sports day), Mochitsuki (New Year's culinary tradition), and summer Bazaar celebrating Japanese culture, games, and food.

Student placement is dependent upon teacher's assessment. We believe that students learn better when they are in classes with their peers. As such, teachers may recommend that older students take supplementary courses so that they can advance to classes with students of similar ages.

Typical School Year
SACBC JLS' academic year generally follows the first and last day of school of the local public schools of Fremont, Hayward and Newark and typically begins in September and ends in June. Classes are held on most Saturdays during the school year with breaks during Thanksgiving, Christmas and for Spring Break.

Tuition and Fees
SACBC JLS' fees are reviewed annually. Families with multiple students enrolled are eligible for a discount. While tuition and fees vary year to year, in general, families can expect the following tuition and fees.

Our Board of Directors
The Parent’s Board is comprised of parent-volunteers who serve two-year terms. Among other things, the Parent’s Board sets tuition, meets with the teachers, handles administrative tasks, and organizes the various school events of JLS.
